The Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback is the Japanese automaker’s entry into the subcompact hatchback segment. It shares the same platform as its sedan counterpart, the Mitsubishi Mirage G4. With its body configuration, the Mitsubishi Mirage addresses the concern of many Filipino families who want a vehicle but would like to retain the distinctive characteristics of the original Mirage – fuel efficiency and value for money.
The Mirage’s interior is black and comes with fabric seats. The infotainment comes in a 2-DIN form factor as standard but the inclusion of a touchscreen will depend on the variant. Sounds are sent through either four speakers for the GLX CVT variant, or two for the GLX MT variant. The head unit is Bluetooth capable and has an auxiliary input.
The Mirage hatchback is powered by a three-cylinder 1.2-liter engine. The engine produces 77 hp and 100 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through either a 5-speed manual or a CVT.
Launch
The sixth-generation Mirage was launched in 2013 and is manufactured in Mitsubishi’s Santa Rosa plant. It came in two body types a hatchback and a sedan. It is powered by a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine that can come with a CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission. The subcompact vehicle comes standard with a 2-DIN radio that can be had with a touchscreen depending on the variant.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The Mitsubishi Mirage comes with a 1.2-liter 3A92 gasoline engine. The 1.2-liter 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine produces 77hp and 100 Nm of torque. It has MacPherson struts with coil springs with stabilizer bars for the front suspension. The rear, on the other hand, gets torsion beam suspension. The engine can be had with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
Stopping power comes from 13-inch ventilated discs up front and 7-inch leading and trailing drums in the rear. To add more stopping power it comes with an 8-inch master vacuum brake booster. The subcompact sedan rides on 165/65R14 wheels and tires. Wheels come in the form of 14x4.5 alloy wheels.

Driving Performance
The Mitsubishi Mirage is a light and nimble city car, with an emphasis on the latter because of its diminutive size. Its 3-cylinder power plant is responsive to throttle inputs, plus the lightweight construction is an advantage to the small yet capable engine. The CVT, however, is one of its weakest traits as it does give you a hard time before you could get a satisfying pull from the small hatchback.
Handling-wise, the Mirage is just okay on open roads but a champion in the city. The light steering feel and wide driving visibility make maneuvering in tight spaces a cinch.
Technology Features
The Mitsubishi Mirage comes with a 2-DIN 6.75-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It comes with a tuner, iPod compatibility with AUX-in and USB port; it also comes with Bluetooth connectivity with a mirror link feature. The GLX MT variant does not get a touch screen but does retain the same features as the other variants. The GLS variants come standard with GPS navigation and four speakers. The GLX only comes with two speakers and does not come with a GPS system.
Exterior
The Mitsubishi Mirage comes with a Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution body. Apart from the trunk, what differentiates it from the sedan version is the dark-colored grille. It also comes standard with halogen multi-reflector headlights as well as fog lights for the GLX model. 14-inch wheels are also standard throughout the variant lineup.
Color options for the subcompact hatch all come in a wide array of colors, ranging from subtler tones such as Cool Silver Metallic, Titanium Gray Metallic, White Pearl, and White Solid. Mitsubishi also offers this model in bright colors like Medium Blue Mica, Red Metallic, Sunrise Orange Metallic, and Wine Red Pearl.
Interior
The interior of the Mirage comes in a black theme with silver accents on the air-conditioning vents. The seating material is fabric and has enough seating space for five passengers. The center console will have a 2-DIN stereo as standard but the inclusion of a touchscreen will depend on the variant. It features a multi-information display with an eco assist lamp.
For trunk space, the Mirage hatchback comes with a folding bench seat to accommodate larger cargo items.
Safety
For safety, the Mirage comes with SRS airbags for both the driver and passenger. It also comes with 3-point seatbelts with ELR and pretensioners. 3-point seat belts are also standard for the rear passengers as well. ABS is only available for the GLS variants, the GLX does not have it equipped as standard. Other safety features include a Brake Override System and ISOFIX anchors for the GLS variants.
The Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback got a 4-star rating in adult occupancy protection while bagging a 43% compliance in child occupancy.
The Mitsubishi Mirage comes with a 1.2L three-cylinder engine. It is not the most powerful, but it returns impressive fuel economy. The GLX variant is a good model to get when on a budget, thanks to the feature loadout. The navigation inside the head unit is also easy to use.
Where the Mirage falls short is in terms of the NVH insulation, as the cabin does get quite loud. The interior may also be a sore spot for most, as it is a little uninspired.
